The Cup match has been rescheduled for 9 Jan (we now have two matches at the same time that day - so one will end up being cancelled!)
So, we will have Christmas training session at Futsal on Sunday 19/12 10.00-11.00am (trainers + shinpads + drink).
Note the time is slightly earlier. This is so boys can be free to help out the U13s for their home match 11.30 k.o. Please let me know if you would like to play for the U13s (although strong possibility it will be off as the pitch is frozen and will only get worse this week).

Wasps 5 - 4 Penhill
What a match to get our first win. 9 goals and 3 (nearly 4) penalties!
Well done to everyone. Everyone payed their part today and contributed to the team. After going into the second half behind and conceding another goal from a corner we showed great spirit to come back and win 5-4.
The key learning point is not to stand still at set pieces - we let in two goals from corners because we didn't move an inch as the ball was delivered.
Captain's MoM (chosen by Harry): Johan for his goals (including a great free kick and a fine run over 40 yards)
Coach's MoM: Arthur - for his hat-trick, plus his sportsmanship in pointing out to the ref that it wasn't a penalty at one point, which was remarked on by the Penhill manager.
Training Monday as usual but with celebratory chocolates for the boys!
Next match, home derby vs Chiseldon on 28/11, 10am k.o.

Greenmeadow 5 - 0 Wasps
We showed much more determination and our passing started to pay off in the second half of this match. We only let in one goal in the second half and had several good chances ourselves, including striking the bar!
Unfortunately the first half went less well. A lack of tackling and urgency around the box and through midfield resulted in 4 goals.
Overall, if we keep playing football we will win matches!
Captain's MoM (chosen by Will A): Harry for his determination in defence and midfield
Coaches' MoM: Tom Head for passing out of midfield.
Training Monday with PerAxel and Chris Chilcott.
Next match - Sunday 21st at home vs Penhill (also on nil points!)

Wasps 1 - 3 Croft B
After a good first half with a clean sheet and a few chances, the second half was the poorest performance we have had for a while. We let in 3 goals as a result of various mistakes before some determination from Johan won a consolation goal.
Captain's MoM: Benjamin chosen by Will for his defending - Benj played in a slightly different position today at inside left defence and did very well in his job covering behind the outside left.
Coaches' MoM: Harry - worked hard in defence with a couple of last minute clearances.
Training tomorrow as usual.
Due to our walk-over in the cup, the next scheduled match is on Sunday 14/11 away at Greenmeadow - although we may try to schedule a match before then and will let you know if so. Please keep us up-to-date with your availability.

Calne 8 - 1 Wasps and at home on Sunday 17/10
Once again the scoreline doesn't really reflect on the performance.
Lots of positives today:
- we played especially well in midfield, winning the ball and passing up to the forwards/wing
- we created some good chances and "looked likely to get a couple more goals" according to their coach
- we scored our first goal of the season (well done Arthur)
As ever, we let in quite a few soft goals, especially letting them get to the ball before us in the box. We were often too slow to react to quick corners and loose balls. You are playing football, you are not a spectator!
The effort level increased above last week - but we need every player to put in as much effort as the opposition, not just some players.
Captains MoM - Will A. for some strong defensive work (chosen by Jonny)
Coaches MoM - Samuel for excellent midfield play
Training Monday as normal (pls remember to send £2 for the biscuit fund if you haven't already done so)
We have arranged to play Croft next week 17/10 (rather than in January). We are at HOME. Meet at 9.30 for 10am kick off. I'll assume everyone is available unless you let me know....

Sunday 10/10 Away at Calne
Sunday's match is confirmed away at Calne. 2pm kick off - so can everyone please meet at 1.30 at the Beversbrook sports centre in Calne (Beversbrook Road, Calne, Wilts SN11 9FL)
Sunday, 3 October 2010
We are through to the last 16 of the cup!
Due to the withdrawal of Penhill Allstars U12s we are through to the last 16 of the League Cup. A chance to do some giant-killing against either Liden A or Hungerford.
Wasps 0 - 7 Cirencester
Not a great result today (!) but quite a few positives,
- moving Charlie to a forward position worked well and he linked in well with Arthur
- the defensive line worked well
- Benjamin and Will A played well on the left
- Sam and Tom battled hard in midfield and attempted to pass up to the forwards
- Jonny wasn't scared to leave his goal line to clear an oncoming ball (perhaps too enthusiastically sometimes!)
However,
- we were rarely first to the ball
- we were slow to react and get back to balls being passed through the defensive line
- on average we played at about 60% effort - which is simply not good enough
- it took too long to learn their tactics (eg long throws clearing everyone's heads)
- we didn't take our chances in front of goal.
Captains MoM (chosen by Arthur) - Jonny
Coaches MoM - Nick for leading the defence
Training tomorrow at St Jo's.
We are away next week at Calne (afternoon kick off) and will confirm and provide directions in the week. Meanwhile pls let us know if you are not available or need a lift.

Brinkworth 5 - 0 Wasps
A tough match today against the 2nd place team from last year. We created some good chances, but let them in too often on goal. We took some knocks today - the game is getting more physical as we move through the age groups.
We will not win matches by being stronger or more aggressive than the other team - we need to be cleverer and play more intelligent football - we are capable of this but need to be confident on the ball and work as a team.
Good performances today from lots of players but:
Captain's MoM (chosen by Benjamin) - Arthur
Coaches' MoM - Jonny.
Reminder training on Monday at St Jo's.

Avonvale 1 - 0 Wasps
It was great to see everyone working hard and playing competitively for our first match of the season. The lesson from their only goal was to ensure the back 4 are consistent in keeping their line - otherwise it is easy for the opposition to slip through.
We were unlucky that Tom's equalising goal was ruled out for offside.
Captain's MoM (chosen by Tom) - Benjamin for his defensive work and chasing back
Coaches MoM - Will A for excellent recovery work in defence in the first half and strong midfield work in the second.
Special mention to Jonny for his great performance in goal, Samuel solid in defence (covering for an injured Nick) and Arthur for covering so much ground on a large pitch.
Training on Monday as usual at the Rec. Training will be at St Jo's from 4 October.
As in previous years we'd appreciate £2 from everyone to ensure a supply of match biscuits. Please pass to me or Helen.

New Season
New season coming up - first match is 5/9 (away at Avondale nr Tetbury, 2pm kick-off).
We will have two training sessions before then (Bank Holiday Monday and the Friday of that week) - hopefully everyone can make at least one, if not both, of these.
We don't have enough players for the friendly v Cirencester, so I have cancelled that one.
We have a busy season - we are going to try to play some matches on Monday evenings instead of training in case we have matches cancelled due to weather over the winter. We will let you know.
The fixture list is available on the right hand side of this page. As ever, please let us know if you are unavailable for any matches. This year we can use 5 substitutes per match (ie our whole squad) so please assume you are playing every match.

Wasps 2 - 4 Marlborough
Thanks to everyone for turning out in some horrible bank holiday weather for the last match of the year
The boys played well and battled hard against the second best team in the league.
We tried playing most players out of position today and it was pleasing to see everyone adapt well.
Well done to Johan and Charlie for taking their chances and scoring 2 good goals.
Captains MoM (chosen by Arthur) - Johan for his goal and midfield battling
Coaches MoM - Arthur for hard work and keeping position in defence
Final reminder -- please let us have (as per attachment/email below):
- your vote for player of the year
- your RSVP to the AGM on the 16th
- confirmation that you will play next year (or not)
Thanks to those who have already let us know.
Simon
Reminder about the AGM (letter attached) - please RVSP and choose your player of the year ASAP (email response is fine).
Please wear training kit (including new black Stanno short sleeve tops) to the AGM.
No training next week due to bank holiday. We will continue to train for a few weeks depending on the boys' interest/school work/SATs etc. and hope to arrange a few friendlies. I've only had a couple of players express any interest in 6-a-side tournaments -- let me know if you want to do one.
Finally, we need to think about U12s next year. This year has been a hard one in a difficult league and I hope it hasn't depressed the boys too much. We expect to be in a lower (and much more suitable) division next year. Obviously we need to continue to have a decent sized squad to do this - please confirm that you are intending to play again next year. Give me a call if you have any questions or concerns.
Thanks

Croft Results
Results from our two matches against Croft: (H) 1-9 and (A) 7-1.
We didn't play badly in either match - but as ever had a spell in both matches where we gave away several goals. Well done to Johan for scoring both goals.
Perhaps it is late in the season as the energy we put into the match has dropped significantly - we get punished when we stand and look instead of challenging for the ball.
We will be practising kicking the ball at training!
Captains MoM - Nick and Arthur
Coaches MoM - Samuel and Benjamin
Training back at the Rec 6.45 - 8pm om Monday.
Next (and probably last) match on Sunday 2/5 at home to Marlborough.

Wanborough 2 - 0 Ferndale (HT)
Best scoreline of the season so far. Two goals up at half time against the league leaders. Two impressive goals as a result of proper football. It was just like watching Man United (almost).
Unfortunately the slope, constant pressure from Ferndale and a lack of concentration resulted in 4 goals + a penalty for Ferndale (5-2 final score).
Captain's MoM (chosen by Will A) George for an excellent effort against a tricky Ferndale winger.
Coaches' MoM was awarded to the best defensive display today - this was from Ewan (lots of other contenders too)
Good points: We showed in the first half that we can defend well if we set our mind to it - and scoring two goals on the break was impressive. We played some good defensive football.
Improvement required: Another 10 minute spell of low energy and poor attention lost us a couple of goals. We need to keep going when decisions (such as a corner or penalty) go against us.
Training as normal at St Jo's on Monday 22/3 and Monday 29/3 (after Easter we are back at the Rec for training)
No match on Sunday 28/3.

Unfortunately PX and I are both unavailable for training tomorrow due to work commitments - so no training on 15/3.
Sunday 14/3
It seems we are destined to lose 8-2 to Wootton Bassett! A great long range goal from Charlie in first half and a goal from Tom H in the second gave us our two goals.
Our main weakness and learning point today is about marking and running back, especially from midfield - too many times WB had 4 or 5 players in our 18-yard box against only one or two Wanborough players. Overall we need to do much more running.
For a long period in the second half we played well and created some good chances - it was nice to see a couple of offsides. While we need to watch straying offside, at least it means there has been a pass and someone running into space.
Captain's MoM - Charlie - chosen by Jonny for his goal
Coaches' MoM - Will A - for working hard in defence and then for some exciting play after moving into midfield.
Special mention to Dominic for a very effective and team-spirited role in defence.
We are away next week at Ferndale (B) midday kickoff and will let you know details ASAP
We are HOME vs Wootton Bassett on Sunday 14th March. Meet at 9.30 for 10am kick off at the Rec in match kit with warm hats/gloves/tights if cold.

Sunday 14th Feb - POSTPONED
Sorry for the late notice. After confirming Sunday's match with Ferndale it turns out they have a County Cup match which takes precedence, so we have been postponed by the League.
There is no training on Monday 15th (half term) and no match on Sunday 21st - so enjoy half term!
Training resumes Monday 22nd, with next match away at Highworth on Sunday 28th - Sam/George/Will W are unavailable so everyone else required please.

Ramsbury 3 - 1 Wanborough
Wanborough were 1-0 up for most of the first half after Arthur headed in Johan's cross. Ramsbury pressed hard in the second half to equalise. Unfortunately the referee awarded two penalties for Ramsbury to win 3-1.
There is a lesson here - if an attacking player goes down in the box the referee will have to think about a penalty. Some players will be looking for these opportunities and we need to be very careful. Always play the ball.
Overall we had a great game and can be proud of the effort today. Fantastic goalkeeping by Jonny. A solid back four working as a team. Some strong midfield play and good running up-front. We do need to create some more chances for ourselves.
Captains MoM: Charlie chosen by Johan for his clearances in midfield.
Coaches MoM: Jonathan for some brilliant keeping.
Training Monday as normal, concentrating on throw-ins!

We are at HOME on Sunday vs Marlborough. Meet at 9.30 for 10.00 kick off in full match kit (with gloves/t-shirt to keep warm!)
Please check the website for upcoming fixtures. Due to postponements the schedule is pretty packed (even around half term). Let us know if you are not available for any matches between now and April so that we can plan around your availability.

Training Monday 11/Sunday17
We are working on the assumption that there is no training tomorrow (astroturf at St Jo's is still covered in snow)
We are supposed to be at home to Shaw on Sun 17th. Again, even if it thaws this is highly unlikely to go ahead. I have provisionally booked another session at New College instead (10-11am). Will confirm midweek.
Those at training today should have brought new training tops home - suitable for use indoors or underneath match kit/long sleeved top in this colder weather. If the size is badly wrong please let us know and we may be able to do some swapping around.
