South Cerney 4 - 1 Wasps

A disappointing result yesterday, but it sounds like the scoreline doesn't really tell the whole story. A few mistakes costs us some cheap goals, but otherwise we had a decent match in some lousy weather.

Well done to Tye for getting MoM for determinedly challenging for every ball.

Thanks to Per-Axel for managing again and to Ray for running the line.

Training tonight from 6.15 to 7.30pm at the Rec.

Next week's match is at HOME to Highworth (10 for 10.30 kick off)

CUP: Sevenfields 3 - 4 Wanborough

Congratulations for a good win in the cup today. We had a good cup run last year - but they were all byes so it is nice to progress on merit. Perhaps we'll do some giant-killing in the next round!

Thanks very much to Joe and Jack (U13s) for helping out today and playing really well. It sounds like a good but tough match. Well done to Charlie, Joe, Miles and Tye for getting a goal each.

Man of the match: Charlie - for a goal and for taking on the game after 20 minutes, holding the team together and turning it around for Wanborough.
Special mention for Nick who by all accounts had a great match.

as a few times have changed, Malborough have dropped out and our cup win will result in a change or two.

Training Monday 6.15pm - 7.30pm at the Rec

Next Sunday - due to be away at South Cerney. 10am for 10.30

Wasps 1 - 1 Stratton Youth

A great game to start the season. Well done to everyone today for working hard in the hot sunshine and getting a point on the board.

The result is encouraging and we could have won it - we came close several times including Charlie hitting the bar. More importantly we played some excellent football - defending was strong, midfield were creative and caused no end of problems for Stratton and the forwards created chances and chased down balls.

We were unlucky to concede 1 minute before half time having kept the opposition at bay for 35 minutes. We certainly deserved the equaliser from Johan.

Among many super performances today, coaches' MoM was Arthur, who worked hard despite getting a knock and showed a good temperament in some challenging conditions.

As indicated last season, we intend to appoint a "permanent" Captain (rather than change it every week). The first Captain will take the position until Christmas. Then we will either revert to the rotation system or appoint a new Captain for the remainder of the season. We will appoint the Captain and tell the boys in the next couple of weeks.

As mentioned, we are low on numbers so need your continued support to turn out every week regardless - thank you to the two players who played today despite carrying injuries.

Training Monday 6.30 - 7.30pm. Match Sunday 16th Cup match away at Sevenfields (Meadowcroft) 10 for 10.30 k.o.

First match

We had a good match tonight. A very nice start to the season against a very good U13s squad. Well done to everyone. Goals from Dom, Arthur and Johan. Some great defending and creative midfield play. As I mentioned to the boys we have a definite squad of 13 regulars and a couple of possible players. This means we need everyone every week (we already have one on the injured list!). If you can't make a match please give me as much notice as possible so we can ask an U13 to play if necessary. If you know anyone else who might like to play for us please ask them to call/email me/Helen - no obligation! I have had a few kit requests - let me know if you need anything else and I will try to sort it out. Match Sunday - at home to Stratton Youth - meet at the Rec at 10am for 10.30 kick off Training Monday is at the Rec from 6.30 - 7.30pm
