Highworth 3 - 4 Wasps. The Miracle of Highworth

In 2005, there was the Miracle of Istanbul - Liverpool coming back from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan. Liverpool had to go to penalties to win the Champions League. Today we went one better in the Miracle of Highworth. From 3-0 down, we came back to win 4-3. A wonderful second half performance and a well deserved win.

We didn't play our best in the first half. Not enough challenging for the ball, slack marking. We let Highworth play around us too easily. They scored three straightforward goals.

At half time, a Rafa Benitez team talk and it was a different team in the second half. Johan opened the scoring with a free-kick which fooled the goalie and dropped in at the far post. He then delivered a corner for Charlie to head in and a cross for Charlie to get a second. 3-all with 10 minutes left. Finally, some fantastic work from Harry to deliver a cross in for Johan to get the winner.

Meanwhile defence and midfield were strong and worked hard to keep Highworth out. Some excellent clearances, tackling and goalkeeping.

Overall a great result which puts some distance between us and the bottom of the table. All credit to the boys for some great football and sporting character.

MoM: Johan for getting hold of the match and being the change that was needed, plus he had a hand in all 4 goals.

Training tomorrow as normal.

No matches over Xmas - next match in the New Year is at home on 6/1 (vs league leaders Chippenham)

Wasps 2 - 2 South Cerney

Cracking game today resulting in a well deserved point.

In the first half we played very well - some excellent defending, good passing from midfield and we created a lot of chances. The goal eventually came from a corner, Arthur delivering into the box for Johan to head in. Unfortunately a 5 minute spell when we were a bit sloppy with marking let South Cerney get a goal back.

We carried on playing well in the second half, but did start to allow Cerney too much room in midfield and they took advantage to go ahead. However, we carried on working hard - possibly the best we have ever played uphill in a second half. After a couple of close chances, a route one goal from Jonny to Arthur to Johan levelled up the game.

Some great performances today with many MoM contenders. Well done to Johan for getting 2 goals and Arthur for 2 assists. Lucas had his best game yet and Marcus played well in his first game for us. Apart from a couple of weak moments, the defence was very strong.

MoM: Sam for an impressive display in midfield, especially influential in the first half. Excellent tackling and distribution of the ball.

Training - we will train as normal tomorrow and Monday 17th before breaking for Xmas.

Final match before Xmas is away at Highworth on Sunday 16/12 afternoon (2pm) kick off
