Another tough match against Chippenham today.
Despite the scoreline we worked hard and played well for the most
part.
Our main weakness for the last few games has been the lack of
decent clearances - we don't get the ball away from trouble
quickly or assertively enough. This hurt us again today.
Chippenham tried to score from distance, but we blocked well and
Jonny dealt with those shots which did get through. We conceded
goals from inside the box - including one comedy goal :-)
We made several good chances. Johan caused trouble and Harry
threatened when moving forwards. Johan won a penalty after being
brought down on a good run through the box, which he calmly
converted. Midfield and defence worked hard but left some big gaps
at times.
MoM: If everyone does their job well and confidently, then the
whole team does well. Miles simply did his job well today - a
solid defensive effort for the whole match reducing any threat on
the left.
Training tomorrow - as usual, but Rob Reeves is taking the
session.
Next week we are away at Stratton Youth (Cirencester) meet at 10
for 10.30 kick off. This is a real "6-pointer" "must-win" match.
Stratton will jump above us if they beat us.

Wasps 2 - 3 Brinkworth
A good game today - we started well and
dominated the first half. Two good goals from some excellent
football starting from midfield and moving the ball well. Well
done to Charlie and Luc for getting the goals (Luc's first for the
team).
We made lots of other chances and should have sealed the game by half-time. Brinkworth came out more determined in the second half and an early goal gave them momentum. They drew level and then went ahead. Meanwhile we had a couple of excellent 1 on1 chances vs the goalie, but couldn't get the equaliser.
Once again our movement wasn't good enough - we allowed Brinkworth to play around us or get control of the ball too easily. We cannot simply watch as players run from being marked or as balls roll across the box. That said, most players worked very hard and played well today - we deserved at least a point.
MoM: Nick had a superb performance in defence in both halfs. Some good tackles and brave headers.
Training Monday as normal.
Match next Sunday is at home to Chippenham 10.30 kick off.

Chippenham 4 - 1 Wasps
Despite the scoreline, we can be pleased with
today's performance. Chippenham are doing well in the league and
are a good strong team. They caused us lots of trouble, most of
which we dealt with well, even though we had to soak up the
pressure for lots of the match.
We had a good first half. Chippenham resorted to long shots from outside the box, dealt with easily by Jonny. We let in one goal by allowing their striker to turn easily and shoot in the box. 1-0 at half-time was a good scoreline for us.
We carried on working hard in the second-half, but a combination of playing uphill, into the wind and with only 11 players on a very soft pitch, the gaps in the defence began to open up and Chippenham rifled in a couple of goals. We fought hard to make some chances and a neat pass from Charlie was well-taken by Johan to make it 2-1 at one point.
Many good performances today. Jonny was a remarkably safe pair of hands and defence worked hard. MoM goes to Luc for his best performance yet, much more confident on the ball and some good passing from midfield.
At times we were sloppy with marking today, especially from throw-ins and goal-kicks. We must challenge harder for free balls.
No training Monday 25/2.
Next match is at home to Brinkworth on 3/3 (meet at 10 for 10.30 kick off)

Avonvale 2 - 1 Wasps
A big improvement on the last game v Avonvale.
In particular, the defence worked hard to stop the threat from the
two forwards who scored a few in the home fixture.
We went ahead after a couple of minutes. Johan's corner flicked on by Arthur for Charlie to score. We played pretty well for 35 minutes before Avonvale scored in the last minute.
We were slow start off the second half and Avonvale scored after a few minutes. It remained 2-1 for the rest of the match, despite Charlie hitting the post and several other chances. Avonvale pressured constantly and we withstood well, but never really took control of the ball to threaten their goal enough to win.
Overall, a tough match on a soft, wet slopey pitch on a cold day with a close scoreline. Well done to the defence for all the hard work soaking up the pressure. Ty certainly "took one for the team".
MoM - Jonny for being muddiest player - some excellent saves and a very safe pair of hands today.
The good news is that the teams around us made little progress today - so we are still in touch with the middle teams in the table.
Training tomorrow as normal - I am at Ridgeway at the start so PX is in charge with help from John Reeves.
No matches over half term - next match is AWAY at Chippenham on 24/2 10.30 kick off

Sevenfields 2 - 3 Wasps
As ever at Sevenfields, it was a tough match today - well done to the boys for seeing it through and getting the win (2 in a row!)
We started well on an icy pitch. Three or four early chances missed but we grabbed a good goal after Sam slotted a ball through for Johan to score. It was great to see a lot of passing and movement. Meanwhile our defence played well to minimise the threat from Sevenfields.
In the second half, another assist from Sam passing the ball on to Johan to dribble through from the half way line through to score. 2-0.
Unfortunately a sloppy 10 minutes where we didn't control midfield and stopped moving for the ball and we conceded 2 goals. In the last ten minutes we had several chances to win the game - some good runs by Harry and some free-kicks for Johan - but we couldn't get the goals. However, a last minute penalty was calmly slotted in by Johan for the win.
The win briefly moved us up the table until other results went against us. However, we now have a clear gap between us and the bottom teams and we are only 1 point behind the two teams ahead of us.
MoM - Harry for another super performance - he is proving to be a very dangerous attacker as well as solid defender.
Everyone worked hard today. Special mention for Johan's hat-trick, for Sam's midfield play and for the defence who all played well today, for 60 minutes at least :-)
Next Sunday we are at home vs league leaders Shaw. 10am meet for 10.30 kick off.
